Tasmanian Libraries choose Preservica to protect public access to archival collections

Preservica’s digital preservation framework will manage digital collections over 150TB to ensure long-term storage of digital archives

BOSTON, MA and OXFORD, UK /ACCESSWIRE/February 2, 2022/ Preservica, a world leader in active digital preservation software, has partnered with Libraries Tasmania under a multi-year contract to accept, preserve and store government and non-government digital records as archives.

The ability to manually or efficiently manage the 150TB of digital collections has become difficult, putting Tasmania’s libraries at risk of not meeting the standards required to ensure the continued preservation and accessibility of its digital cultural collections.

Preservica worked with a local partner Document Management Tasmania (DMTAS) on the formal tendering and contracting process. The digital preservation service will be hosted in the AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region.

The Tasmanian Archives contain hundreds of thousands of objects of significant historical and cultural value, in various formats, which are actively decaying. These contain content that is unique and integral to the history of Tasmania and must meet industry standards and compliance requirements to support business processes for the capture, storage, management, distribution, secure identification, access, delivery and long-term preservation of its digital collections.

“Our commitment is to preserve the continuing memory of Tasmania as a leading provider of history, research and information services,” said Allegra Huxtable, Head of Government Archives and Preservation at Tasmanian Libraries, Department education. “We are delighted to partner with Preservica to preserve archives and heritage items to fulfill our legal role as Tasmania’s memory keeper and to generate opportunities for lifelong learning and inspiration. culture accessible to everyone in the world.”
