Sutherland Libraries offer a wide range of activities and exhibits to celebrate Book Week in Scotland

High Life Highland Libraries offer a wide range of activities for literature lovers in Sutherland and across the Highlands this Book Week in Scotland.

The annual celebration of books and reading takes place across the country from November 15-21.

Book Week Scotland kicks off today (Monday 15 November), marking the 10th anniversary of the nation’s celebration of reading and writing.

From Bettyhill to Brora, Julie Corcoran, Senior Director of High Life Highland Libraries, promises that the week will have something for everyone.

She said: “The theme for this year is celebration and with our libraries once again open to visitors, this is something we can all celebrate.

“We have book sales, author tours, arts and crafts activities and a free Book Week Scotland book for people throughout the week. “

High Life Highland Libraries are free to join, giving you access not only to physical books, magazines, newspapers and computers, but also thousands of titles through its online service.

High Life Highlands operates 40 libraries and eight mobile libraries. To find the nearest library or to register, visit or search Facebook to join the community.

Here’s what’s happening at Sutherland Libraries this week:

Bettyhill Library and Service Point

A local history exhibit from the collection of the Strathnaver Museum.

A celebration of local culture with live music and books.

Bonar Bridge Library

The Bonar Bridge nursery will receive Bookbug Explorer bags for children who were unable to retrieve their bags during the lockdown.

A wall display of current children’s books.

Brora Library and Cultural Center

A sale of books.

Dornoch Academy Library.

Young Scottish Voices live panel from an author for S3 students.

A Remembrance Day display.

Golspie High School Library

Student-created Book Week Scotland Bunting will be on display throughout the week.

Neil Gunn book display.

Golspie Library

A thematic exhibition will be presented in the library of the High Life Highland Countryside Rangers Service.

Helmsdale Library

A Lucky Dip book display.

An exhibition of themed books will be present in the library throughout the week.

Lairg Library

An exhibition of books on Scottish authors will feature in the library throughout the week.

Thematic readings and classroom art sessions at Lairg Primary School.

Ullapool Community Library

A Bookbug session in Scottish.
