Summerland Kiwanis Club donates $5,500 to local organizations

Funds raised through the sale of second-hand furniture

The Kiwanis Club of Summerland donated $5,500 to community organizations through the sale of furniture and other donated items.

Diane Pearson, treasurer of the service club, said the donations were sold online to raise funds. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kiwanis club held garage sales as fundraising events.

The service club donated $1,500 to the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Center.

Other organizations received $500 each. These organizations are Agur Lake Camp Society Air Cadets, Giant’s Head School Breakfast Program, Summerland Middle School Breakfast Program, NeighborLink Summerland the Girl Guides, the Variety Club and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club.

The Summerland Kiwanis Club continues to sell furniture. Anyone with furniture donations is encouraged to call Pearson at 250-404-0434.

The club has a total of 11 members and is looking for other members who enjoy volunteering to join the organization.
