NYC Racial Justice Commission Provides Funding to Community Organizations for Voter Education Campaign

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The New York City Racial Justice Commission (RJC) is accepting applications to partner with active community organizations and provide them with funding to educate New Yorkers about the commission’s ballot proposals to address racial equity in the city.

The RJC was created by Mayor Bill de Blasio earlier this year with the task of examining structural racism in all city institutions and agencies. The commission was designed to offer solutions in the form of suggested revisions to the city charter, which is essentially the city’s constitution. NYC voters will be able to vote on the ballot commission’s three proposals in the November 2022 election.

Prior to the election, the RJC will conduct its voter education campaign to inform voters of the proposals.

“To ensure equitable participation across the city and the distribution of resources, we are extending an open invitation to all community organization partners who wish to apply for funding,” the commission said in its program announcement.

The Community Partnership Program consists of four tiers of funding with varying deliverables based on organizations’ capacity and reach. They are the following:

Tier 1: $2,500

At least one in-person event or demo with an expected reach of at least 300 unique community members and weekly community touchpoints.

Tier 2: $5,000

At least one in-person event or demo with an expected reach of at least 700 unique community members and weekly community touchpoints.

Tier 3: $10,000

At least two in-person events or demos with an expected reach of at least 1,600 unique community members and weekly community touchpoints.

Tier 4: $20,000
