Kandiyohi County Historical Society

Willmar, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, closed holidays, $3 for adults 12 and under and Kandiyohi County Historical Society members admitted free, 320- 235-1881, located at Locomotive Train on North Commercial Highway 71 across from Robbins Island. The museum has a number of featured exhibits. Besides the museum, there is a one-room schoolhouse, a lumber shed and a Great Northern locomotive. Maps of historic sites in the county are available at the museum.

Sperry House: The Sperry House will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday through September 3. The cost is $3 per person, members are free. Open by appointment on weekdays.

Guri Endreson website: The Guri Endreson site, located off County Road 5, the country road gate is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Guided tours available by appointment.

Atwater Region Historical Society

City of Chippewa: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays through Labor Day; junction of State Highway 7 and US Highway 59 in Montevideo; reconstruction of a city from the beginning of the century with 23 buildings and two very old canoes. The Chippewa River Canoe, carbon dated between 1436 and 1522, is in the Gateway Building and the Minnesota River Canoe, carbon dated between 1626 and 1679, is in the Gippe Cabin. Admission adults $5, 6-17 years old $2 and 5 and under will be admitted free.

Talking Lake Mission: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until September 4. Visitors can ring the church bell, echoing the sound of the original, traditionally known as Minnesota’s first church bell; six miles north of Montevideo on US Highway 59 and 2.2 miles west on County Road 13; FREE ENTRANCE. The Talking Lake Mission is a Minnesota Historical Society Historic Site operated by the Chippewa County Historical Society.

Olof Swensson Farm Museum: 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, September 3 to 4, or by appointment; six miles east of Montevideo on State Highway 7, then five miles south on County Road 6 to the junction with County Road 15. The 17-acre farm includes a 22-room house, a timber frame barn and the remains of a flour mill. Admission adults $5, 6-17 years old $2, 5 and under will be admitted free.

Horse event: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. September 10, Swensson Farm Museum, 10 km east of Montevideo on State Road 7, then 8 km south on County Road 6 to the junction with County Road 15 , paid entry.

Danube Historical Society

The Danube Historical Society Museum is open from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays in the old Danube Depot building or by appointment, call 320-826-2236.

Dassel, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dassel History Center, 901 First St. N., free donation, 320-275-3077, dassel.com/hs.

Fagen Fighters WWII Museum

Granite Falls, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Lenzen-Roe Memorial Airport, 3 miles south of Granite Falls on Hwy 23; adults $10, 10-17 $5, family $20, active military $5, 9 and under admitted free, annual memberships available. Home to an immaculate collection of fully operational and active WWII aircraft and vehicles, as well as artwork, bronze sculptures, interactive media displays and a library. It is designed as a self-guided experience.

Meeker County GAR and Museum

Summer festival: New London, 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 21, annual summer festival with catered picnic dinner at noon and program at 1:30 p.m., followed by coffee and a break, West New London near County Road 40 on 99th St. NW The program will be “The Immigration Journey of Kari Eriksdatter: A Pioneer Woman’s Story of Strength, Perseverance and Courage” adapted from Marlin Henjum’s book, “Wheat King, reflecting the immigration experience pioneer women in 1880 Norway Lake”. Due to road construction, access is only available from County Road 40. Tables and chairs are provided, but you may bring a lawn chair.

Paynesville Area Historical Museum

Stevens County Historical Museum

Walking tours have been developed for Alberta, Chokio, Donnelly, Hancock and several parts of Morris. Yellow Medicine County Museum
