WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A collective of minority business owners and nonprofits have teamed up to host a giveaway to benefit local homeless people.
At the corner of 9e and Greenfield Streets, the âSpread The Loveâ team including Moms-N-Mourning, Chicken In The Box, the Gamma Xi Gamma Military Brotherhood, Power Entertainment Group and many other local organizations and businesses hosted the âPeace, Love , and Joy â.
Clothes, shoes, non-perishable food, hygiene products and plates with hot meals were distributed to members of the homeless community.
One of the event’s organizers, Demond Wells, also known in the community as Dj Kysheem Remix, events like The Giveaway are needed as the community continues to see an increased need from the homeless population.
âFew people think of homeless people, and a lot of people think that homeless people are trying to get out, and they really are not. Some of these issues are related to mental health, injury, if you do your research – you know, it’s a little deeper than what you think you see. So, we are just here for the cause of the homeless. We’re going to fight for the homeless, we’re going to speak up for the homeless, we’re going to clothe them, âsaid Demond Wells.
The event ran from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the organizations represented connected event participants with community resources.
